Film and TV Recommendations From March 2023

science fiction mystery fantasy film and tv recommendations march 2023

Reading science fiction, fantasy and mystery books aren’t the only way that I learn about stories and inspire my writing. Films and television programmes play a major part in my fiction writing too. That’s why I love to offer up recommendations to readers and watchers so I can share movies and TV programmes that I love and seriously passionate about. Therefore, I hope you enjoy these various mystery, fantasy, science fiction and occasionally romance films and TV recommendations. The recommendations in this post are the ones I made in March 2023.

Shakespeare and Hathaway Private Investigators

I think it's very rare to find a good private investigator mystery programme but thankfully Shakespeare and Hathaway certainly fills that void for me. It's a very light-hearted, fun and great mystery programme set in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The two main characters are matched together perfectly because they both bring different things to the investigation and the other characters are brilliant too. It would be great if the first police woman was still in the series but it's still great without it. So if you're ever looking for a fun and light-hearted piece of mystery with two great private investigators then certainly give Shakespeare and Hathaway mysteries ago.

Halo

Even though I wanted Halo last year I still have mixed feelings about it but I do recommend it on Paramount Plus because it is good. If you haven't watched or played Halo then you are in for a treat because the Master Chief storyline is good, excited and the action is great too. It's a wonderful piece of science fiction to sit down and watch and enjoy if you have a few hours free. And I think for people who do watch and play Halo, I think it's good because it's brilliant to see the Master Chief in action, fighting against the convent and it's good to see the human side of the Spartan. Granted I think some of it is so far away from the Halo lore we love that it ruins it, and the sex scene I disagree with and how they humanised John was a little silly because of how he was shown in the video games, but it's still a good piece of entertainment. So if you did want to try out a good science fiction programme on Paramount+ to see what it's like then check out Halo.

The Librarians

One of my favourite programmes of all time has to be The Librarians because it was such a fun fantasy TV show and it was a great take on the movies. Each season of the programme had a different focus and for people interested in history it was even better because it played so much off history. Like the ancient Greeks, Chinese and Egyptians and more. And the relationships between all the characters and their arcs were good to see and you seriously couldn't ask for better characters than Eve, a former NATO Counter-Terrorism chief and the old man that I can't remember his name. Both of them are brilliant characters and on each adventure all of the characters would only grow on you more. If you like fantasy and history then definitely check out The Librarians.

Blood & Treasure

Speaking of ancient Egyptians, one action adventure programme I have enjoyed in recent years is the sensational "Blood & Treasure" series because it blends history and action adventure so well and the race against time to stop a terrorist. The First season is all about the gripping hunt for Cleopatra's tomb and it blends a lot of great historical facts and then just twists it off to make it even more tense and fascinating. Like a hunt for Nazis who took Cleopatra's coffin out of Egypt during the war. Also the actors are brilliant in it. I'm looking forward for when season 2 airs in the UK because that should be based on Ancient Chinese from the looks of it. If you enjoy history, action adventure and great TV shows then check it out.

Death On The Nile

I really do enjoy a good mystery and I had been meaning to watch these remakes so when I finally could round to watching "Death On The Nile" it was so worth the wait. It's a very clever story, the actors are brilliant and it's filled with tons of twists and turns and it's only at the end you really have a good idea about what's going on. But don't worry Poirot is on the case. There isn't more I can say about this brilliant mystery film in case I spoil it for you but it's definitely worth a watch and I hope there are more remakes.

I hope you enjoyed these movie and film recommendations and if you want to see some of my own fantasy, science fiction, mystery and romance books. Then please click the hyperlink on the genre you want to explore. You won’t regret exploring these great books.
